Travel Post Friday: facing Mecca in flight

Facing Mecca from the air on Qatar Airlines (photo by Sheila Scarborough)

A devout Muslim prays five times a day, from pre-dawn to before bedtime, always facing towards Mecca in Saudi Arabia.

However, if one is flying and changing directions in an aircraft (to say nothing of going through multiple time zones) it can get a bit tricky to know which way to face, so I liked this continuously-updated graphic that was part of the back seat inflight entertainment channels on Qatar Airways.

It was rather mesmerizing to watch, and several times during the flight I saw a few people quietly face the correct aircraft bulkhead and then kneel to pray.
